Earlier in the day, Gastelum said the following after 10News Reporter Vanessa Van Hyfte reached out:

Hi Vanessa, why would I resign?
I condemned horrible acts by bunch of people, why would that impact my job as a Director?— Hector Gastelum (@HectorVote) April 25, 2017
At the city council meeting, several community members spoke up about Gastelum. 10News Reporter Bree Steffen covered some of those comments and Gastelum's response on Facebook Live. Gastelum's comments can be seen around 19 minutes into the video.
At one point, Gastelum said "I never once painted everyone...1.6 billion people...with the same brush." Regardless, the Chula Vista City Council ended the meeting by saying they feel that Gastelum is missing the point and asked for his resignation.
